This is a THIMBLELADY hoop. Yes, it is designed by Liuxin for hand quilting. It is totally hands free - Watch the video demo. Hoop size: 14 inch diametre - to small making it harder for you to loosen quilt; too big causing neck pain by stretching arms too far for too long. Besides, only a 14 inch square hoop with rounded corners gives you a comfortable 12 inch working surface that can only be provided by a 16 inch round hoop! Hoop band depth: 1.5 inch - deep band to hold heavy layered quilt firmly without the pinching the quilt between the hoop rings. No need to tighten the outer ring much. It simply holds your quilt perfectly. It rotates full circle mantaining a nice 22 deree tilt towards your body without the hoop rings ever going off the centre base causing your body leaning forward or sideways. It is made of pine wood. Its lightweight (about 2 kgs/4 lbs) - best hoop for holiday travel. It can be packed flat into a 15 inch pizza box. This is the hoop you need!
You can use it for embroidery if you stick some soft valcro on the outside of the inner hoop/ring for tighter hold without tightening the screws too much. Go to Group Discount Shopping page for greater savings if you have 4 friends who also want them.

I purchased this hoop a few years ago the first time I did a wholecloth quilt. I was really impressed with the quality and the price. The lap design is like it was designed just for me because I sit on my bed and quilt while I watch tv or movies on my laptop (it would also be great for sitting in a chair). I love that it's not bulky or too big like most hoops.
Recently I took the hoop back out and have been doing another wholecloth quilt & it has made a huge difference! When I first bought the frame I had the intention of getting Liuxin's teaching materials and learning her method. I'm not sure why I never did, but now have ordered her package and am awaiting it anxiously to learn this wonderful method. As soon as I practice I'm starting another wholecloth quilt in my wonderful Thimblelady frame.
Thanks for such a great frame!

Where has this hoop been all of my stitching life? I love it. It is so comfortable and pain free to use. I'm not "hunched over" when I stitch using this hoop, and that eliminates the neck and upper back strain that accompanies holding a hoop and trying to stitch at the same time. Or having a "floor" model that I've never been able to comfortably position over my lap.
The square dimensions make it practical for stitching/quilting larger areas and corners without having to move the hoop often. The square design is innovative because it perfectly 'hugs' or holds my quilt sandwich and embroider fabrics and applique without creating a distortion. I like how I can loosely hoop my quilt sandwich in the hoop as The Thimblelady teaches, and it is truly "hands free" as it is stabilized under my thighs as I'm sitting and stitching.
I've given away my other hoops, I'll never use anything but my Thimblelady hoop for hands free quilting and stitching. Thank you for putting a quilter's needs and desires in the forefront of your inventions. We quilters owe you a debt of gratitude.
