Thimblelady Class Outlines:

Class fees and tuition cost:
All A$80/day classes include a basic kit. All A$60/day requires a kit, which prices are different (see kits cost under each class). Tuition: All tuitions are half day @$40 or full day/$80.

1. Hand Quilting Class ($80 incl a class kit):
Class objective: Learn through Liuxin’s trademarked teaching course using Thimblelady’s patented thimble to hand quilt without pain, load many stitches and quilt and fine stitches. Join Liuxin for a fun day to dissect her pain free quilting technique and see yourself achieving fine and easy quilting! No pricked fingers, no gripping pain, quilt all day without any pain:

Class procedure: First 3 hours: coordinate hands to quilt without pain and manipulate needle to achieve fine and even stitches. Second 3 hours: Liuxin’s lecture: everything you must know to create a perfect quilt: from designing to finish and from hardware to software.

2. Needle Turn Appliqué Class ($80 incl a class kit):
Class objective: Through Liuxin’s trademarked teaching course, follow me from the “deep end” of learning, Liuxin’s innovative techniques to needle turn sharp points, steep indentations, curves (convex and concave), fine lines and tiny circles from beginner to master level. Plus Liuxin’s innovative order of applique that give you true accuracy without gluing, basting or dirty marks on background fabric nor attaching a traced lining to background in order to avoid dirty marks on background fabrics... Completely new! Less work better result.

Class procedure: First 3 hours: learn how to needle turn seams precisely and fast from how to hold your project to how to turn 2 inches of seams in one turn! Understand the nature of seams and learn 10 thimblelady’s techniques to make it easy to turn seams at that 6 most basic shapes mentioned above. Second 3 hours: When you can needle turn seams anything and everything with ease using my 10 techniques, I shall show you, through a small class pattern, a complete new order of applique that is less stress full, more accurate in positioning, faster, easier and better result that will enable you to be more creative - Your creative wings are tied up by old inefficient ways of applique!

3. Jacket making Class ($120/two days plus a jacket kit of $98 - all included):
Class objective: Learn jacket making without patterns! Too many of you learned tracing not making jacket in the past. When life changed, no one sell you patterns, you are stuck! This is a lesson that should be learned - learn real skills that will enpower you and benefit you for life!

Class procedure: It is a two day class spreading through one or two weeks so you have time to do home work.
First day - No sewing machine required. Learn how to measure a human body; Learn Liuxin’s golden formula for all human bodies regardless of heights and sizes; Learn the basic law of collars; Learn how to turn a 3D body into a flat shapes; Plus styling: embellishment tips and patterns...  Second day - Bring your own sewing machine. Learn how to make invisible pockets; Proper assembly order without visible stitching. You will be amazed!

Note: This class are only taught at the Shop at this stage. Slow workers can book extra tuition between or after the two-day classes if and when you feel like extra help.

Mini-Class or Project Tuition:
Book a half day or two half days (if you want a day). Select a Saturday or pick a day of your choice during week days. Decide on a subject or several subjects and let me know. Since the classes only take 2-4 people, first book, first serve. When a class is full, it will be in red ink.

Thimblelady New project based Classes offered both online and offline:
4. Advanced Magic Square piecing: ($60 + a kit of $8 of your choice of fabrics).For basic magic square piecing, watch our free online video. This class shows you all the variations of the magic square designs using the stitch regulator.

5. Free hand piecing a silk scarf: ($40 + a kit of $60/assorted matching silk materials). 10am - 1pm: Learn how to free hand piece the scarf or anything.

6. New Quilt Before You Go class #1 Waratah quilt: ($80/2x half day physical classes + Pattern and Quilt Kit of $35/the first block- you can choose any number of blocks @ $16/block plus border and binding etc. or a 9 block quilt kit (all background pre quilted) for $190.

Class Objective: Let Liuxin show you an overview of a new quilt making process that you can quilt first before you applique and/or piece without visible stitching or the look of an old “quilt-as-you-go” thing. No usual stress from handling a large quilt, nor the expense to have your quilt commercially machine quilted. And it will be all your own work.

Classes procedure: The 2 days classes are a starting class and a finishing class when you need to book and come on the scheduled dates. Tuition can be booked as and if you need. Booking is essential. This arrangement enable everyone with different sewing speeds to work together seamlessly with individual flexibility:
1. Starting day: Liuxin’s lecture on the whole process of making this quilt and how to quilt before you go. Get you started with the steps so you can go home to complete everything before the next class.
2. Cutting and assembly order and how to finish it off...
Skills needed for this class: You have done Thimblelady’s needle turn applique class. You know at least how to quilt by hand or how to quilt by machine.

Note: This class are only taught at the Shop at this stage. Inexperienced quilters can book extra tuition between or after the two-day classes if and when you feel like extra help.

7. New Quilt Before You Go class #2 Simple Elegance: ($120/3x half day classes + Pattern and Quilt Kit). Book the first day. and select the rest two days that suit your own working pace.

Class Objective: Quilt, piece separately, then applique. Liuxin shows you how to create a stunning quilt and make the most of your own domestic sewing machine or hand quilt it. Then you can apply this concept and process to make large quilt all by yourself without physical stress or the expense for commercial quilting. It will be all your own work too.

Classes procedure: The 3 days classes are a starting class on applique order of the vases, a background and border making class, and a finishing class - a once a month class (spread into three months). Extra tuition can be booked if needed.

1. Applique day (hand applique only): lecture on overall procedure of the quilt. Start applique a vase.

2. Making a background and border (bring your own machine):hands on how to make two different kind of double sided quilt background and border without stitches shown on either side.

3. Assembly and finishing it.

Skills needed for this class: You have done Thimblelady’s needle turn applique class. You know how to use your own sewing machine.

8. DIY Qbotting: After all the trial and error: I have concluded that Qbot is not taught, but played. So in 2010, no prerequisit learning on using Qbot (extra $20/hour if you require a teaching). Watch our online Qbot tuition and play with the Qbot when making a few quilt. Follow the working menu at the shop, you will find it easy as a piece of cake! This is what the Qbot is for. Totally learning free. No computer skills or knowledge required. Just need to remember which button to press!
