Thimblelady Perth Teaching Retreat 2010
Hi, Girls, meeting time is coming! Last year, we had a wonderful time at the State Library. The only pitty was too little time to catch up during our short lunch break.
This year, we finally got the Christian Redemptorist Retreat Centre just after the quilt show, even though we only get it for two days. That is the ideal place I have always wanted as our annual retreat venue.
Since we only have two days this year, past retreat members will be the focus of this retreat: consolidate the sills you have learned and apply them to a real beautiful quilt plus new skills - see outline below for class info.
The two day Retreat will be entering the Retreat Centre from 9am in the morning of
of May, class starts at 10am - finishes at 4.30pm. Quilter/chef Christine (the quilter kept coming to our classes last year to give me all sorts of food - you will remember when you see her again.) will stay in and cook up a storm for us from morning tea of the first day, lunch, afternoon tea and banquet dinner to breakfast, morning tea and lunch the second day before we leave. Be sure to bring a few tupper ware if you have small stomach. Her cookies are to dye for!
In the evening, I planned a short lecture on how to design Magic Square quilt (half an hour). I don’t think after Christine’s banquet, you can still concentrate. We might as well take the evening to stitch and chat like last year!
Class Outlines:
Full Day Classes: 10 am – 4:30pm
Needle turn Applique on pre-quilted background: The same needle turn applique technique class with a new twist: applique straight onto a quilted block (instead of a background fabric, then quilt it). Learn various methods of assembly quilted blocks with the fine finished look. You can simply get the special class kit for $45 that is designed to incorporate all techniques and can be managed within a day (no homework on this one prior to the class). If the class bag kit is too easy to you, get an applique design/kit out off our website - choose one that is a managable challenge to you. Alternatively, you can also get our warratah quilt kit. $16/block (the block is already quilted, plus applique fabrics, pattern). You need at least 4 blocks for the class. The entire 9 block quilt including borders and binding is $190. You can purchase blocks only and make up border yourself later.
Please note, should you choose the Waratah quilt, you need to bring 4 finished blocks to class - recommended to those of you who have done my applique class and are now itching to take up a challenge. This design test your skills on points and curves.
Free hand Piecing/Korean Style piecing: Perfect piecing with the regulators is the only thing a hands on tuition can be useful after magic square video is free online now. So I would like to revise the focus of this class from how to make magic squares to the more advanced and free form of piecing - hand piecing. (You can still attend this class to learn how to make magic squares or ask questions about them if you have any.) I recommend a special silk scarf kit of $65 for the class - I've designed a smart template to come with every kit so you will not only know how to make magic squares, but also enjoy free hand piecing with the regulators - I bet you will be hooked forever - it is adictive! - once you know how easy it is to create a unique piece of your own! No waste of time, no waste of materials.
